School Council Meeting Minutes - December 2, 2024

Passed last meeting’s minutes.


Money has been raised - $13,231.12 - Coming from movie night and donut fundraiser.

Council decided on putting money into robotics kit School cash online - 3% of the cost - board mandated - cashless 

  • December snowman cookies are cash only and as of January 6 it will be solely online.
  • Popcorn for the December winter dance - $1 popcorn online
  • Saving cc info on account
  • Looking into anticipating if parents forgot to order online to use cash for events, etc.

Halloween movie night 

  • Great feedback received about event from parents
  • >$1000 raised

December 12 - movie night - cancelled 

Hot lunches due before the winter break 

Cookie Dough - $406 profit tentatively


WinterFest Games Night Thursday, January 16, 2025

  •  Pizza? → cannot be a fundraiser event
  • Pro Grant $800 will fund wellness event for our school
    • Small portion can go to snacks for the event
    • Invest in classroom games (70 games) - Sorry, Sequence, Uno, Checkers, Yahtzee, etc.
  • Choir presentation in the gym
  • Storytelling in the library
  • DPA activities in the gym after the choir
    • freeze dance, musical chair, parachute
  • Families to stay with children to engage in games
  • Leadership opportunity for intermediate students to teach families how to play the games
  • No cost to the event
  • Data for families will be collected at the event
  • Demonstrate our robotics learning in a showcase

 

Robotics at EJ

  • THANK YOU for your investment into our robotics club
  • Increased numbers from last year (16 → 77 students)
  • Hosting event at EJ on February 6, 2024 (8:30am-2:30pm)
  • 17 YRDSB schools are participating
  • 5-7 judges are needed within next 2wks to judge the day of
  • Training will happen on the same day
  • Food/drinks will be sold and money will put pack into school
  • Will explore with leadership team to share visuals/pictures via a different platform with families to explain/showcase learning at EJ and items to purchase 

 

Cost sharing - $8000 to top off technology at EJ 

  • Split the cost with school $500 from council  
  • Invest in small headphones to have for students
  • End of February items will be ordered
  • Chromebooks, primary robotics, iPads, etc.

Musical - Willy Wonka - May 29, 2025 

  • Actors have been casted
  • Reading and sets will be created
  • Copyright have been bought $1000 

On the horizon at EJ

  • Primary Eco club
  • Robotics
  • Choir
  • Drama club
  • Guitar/band club 

*Intermediate students are asking council to go on an ice skating rink (place where renting skates is available) - hot chocolate? Thornhill/Markham/Westmount/ - diff community centres Open ice time on a PA day or Saturday? Parents are responsible for children Waiver can be signed by families Brad Haffey to look into rinks 

Elect treasurer to vote in at tonight’s meeting - Mortaza 

Fun fair in the spring - start the planning

  • Brad - speaking to Keith Irish council member
  • Fields not maintained that we inherited since pre covid
  • Ideas - gardening possibility?
  • Legacy project - grant $ - by students - farmer’s market?
  • Look into board maintenance? Maintenance after the winter settles around the school for another clean up for trash that accumulates
