In order to support the Board's mission, the mission of E.J. Sand P.S. is a commitment to developing lifelong learners and problem-solvers, through the use of literacy, technology, mathematics and science.

History

E.J. Sand P.S. is named after Mr. Eilert J. Sand. Mr. Sand was born in Wisconsin, USA on September 26, 1908.

He graduated from the North Bay Teacher's College, received his B.A. from the University of Western Ontario and his Master's Degree from the University of Toronto. He served in the R.C.A.F. from 1940 – 1945. Eilert then became the Principal of King George V School in Sault Saint Marie. In 1956, Eilert came to Markham-Vaughan I.S.A.#1.  When the two townships separated in 1960, Mr. Sand went to Markham as Supervising Principal and Business Administrator. In June 1969, he was appointed Planning Officer for the newly formed York County Board of Education. Mr. Sand passed away on Nov. 2, 1969.

Facilities

E.J. Sand P.S. was officially opened in 1959. An addition was made in 1967. In September 2018, the EJ Sand school building was demolished to make way for a new building.
